Welcome, CS!
Hi everyone. I’m CS Joyce and I’m excited to introduce my book, His Heart or Mine.
This is the first book in my new series, The Individualists. The series follows the lives and loves of a group of creative and eclectic men. Each book is a standalone but characters appear in different books.
The first book follows the lives of Adam, an Irish man who has been running from himself his whole life and Jacob, an Irish man living in Italy, because he runs away from everything, literally!
They meet at a wedding and let’s just say it’s not so easy to walk away from each other this time.
I hope you enjoy the excerpt below.

Blurb: “There’s something about the way he’s looking at me now, determined. Like he might ruin me if given half the chance.”
Adam:
Success can mean a lot of things. To me it meant living a lie and getting away with it.
But pretending is exhausting. My sister’s wedding in Italy was exactly what I needed. A week on the Amalfi coast with sunshine, wine, and zero complications.
Too bad the universe saw an opportunity to ruin that plan. Because what could be more complicated than the arrival of an attractive man who sees right through my act? One that is determined to remind me that you can’t hide who you really are.
What if he tells people my secret? Or, worse still, what if I can’t control these feelings. Because right now I’m feeling all sorts of things – fear, anger, lust…
No, I need to keep this thing under control. I can’t give in.
But what if, just once, I didn’t fight it?
Jacob:
After a series of bad decisions, running away to Italy seemed like the perfect escape. A fresh start in a new country. Nothing, and no one would bring me back to Ireland.
When I meet Adam at my friend’s wedding, I’m captivated. There’s something about this rugged stranger that makes me forget that I keep messing up every part of my life.
I know it’s a bad idea and I know I’m playing with fire. But when anger turns to passion I know I can’t stay away.
He can pretend all he wants but that man belongs in my bed. He might only be here for one week, but I intend to make the most of it.
After all, I can’t ask him for more when I’m not sure I’ll stick around.
But what if, this time, I didn’t run?
The Excerpt
The hotel grounds were quiet now, except for the odd noise from a balcony and the sound of the water filter from the pool.
Jacob picked up his phone and the blue luminescent light from his phone lit up his face.
“What time is it?”
“Nearly four am.”
“Shit. There will be some major hangovers tomorrow.”
“That’s an understatement. I reckon we’ll have the best ones.” Jacob lifted the near empty bottle of wine, sloshing the contents from side to side.
“Fancy a swim?” he said, suddenly sitting upright.
“Are you mad? No way. I can’t swim that well to start with, but I’ve drank so much wine I reckon I’d drown in seconds.”
“Well I’m going in.”
Before I could say anything to stop him he was pulling off his shirt and tie, kicking off shoes, unbuckling his belt and shimmying his trousers down his lean legs. My heart was pounding so fast I was afraid he might hear it.
“Don’t,” I urged as Jacob teetered on the edge of the dark pool, but he jumped straight in.
“Water’s lovely,” he called, after reappearing from the depths and gliding backwards through the pitch-black water. I watched as he swam the full length and then stopped, floating along the silky surface.
“If you start to drown don’t expect me to rescue you.” I sat down on the edge of the pool, cross-legged.
“Come in.”
“No.”
“You’re missing out!”
“I’ll drown.”
“No, you won’t. I’ll save you.”
There was something in the way he said those last few words that made me consider it. I felt excited at the thought of it. I imagined him rescuing me in the water and helping me to the side of the pool, wet bodies pressed together. Water streaming down our faces and dripping off our lips and shivering limbs entangling each other in the dark water. What the hell.
