Welcome to author Elle Keaton and the tour for her latest release, His Best Man, book seven in the Accidental Roots series. She’s here to chat a bit about birthing a book (haha) as well as offering up a giveaway to one lucky reader, so be sure to check out those details below!
“Writing this book = having back labor” has been my twitter handle for months… :)
“What is back labor?”, you ask.
If you’ve never had kids you may not recognize this term, let me explain: when a baby is ready to be born it normally shifts around so that if the mother is lying down the baby would be born face down. This has to do with the shape of the birth canal and the baby’s head shape, let me tell you it is much easier to be born facedown.
So…back labor? Painful, nausea inducing, agony. It happens when a baby doesn’t turn around choosing instead to make its way down the birth canal face up. Also called sunny-side up. While cheerful sounding having your child born face up is horrible. I know this because my first was born sunny-side up (and has been stubborn ever since) after 36 hours of labor. 36 hours. I’m never letting her forget it. Anyway…
His Best Man was determined to be written on its own pace and in its own way from the very beginning – a sort of author back labor. I went into it with one idea and what ended up on paper – or lap top – is pretty different. Part of the reason for this is, while by nature I am not a plotter I usually have a pretty good handle on the plot before I start.
Not so much here. What I thought I knew turned out to be wrong at almost every turn. This book made me cry more than once, I was frustrated and at the end of my rope but I also knew I had to finish that if I dropped the ball Travis and Rod would haunt me. So I persevered.
Only when I was nearing the end did I realize a few things. One: This is the first straight up romance I’ve ever written, there is no mystery. There is only a whiff of a dead body. There was hardly any coffee. I don’t think either of them care much about coffee – traitors.
I did something new! I grew as an author, expanded my repertoire and it was a little painful – but I did it! I feel like I learned how to ride a bike or maybe run a marathon. And I am proud of my effort. It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t always pretty, but I made it to the finish line.
And I really love these two, I’m kind of sad to see them go off into the real world.
I hope you enjoy their journey and love them both as much as I do.
About the Book
Rod Beton and Travis Walker have known each other almost all their lives; since the third grade when Rod was the new kid in town and Travis befriended him with Pokémon trading cards and a fruit snack. Apparently Rod’s easy. Since that day they’ve had each other’s back’s, bread and butter, biscuit and gravy…and so on.
Along the way, Rod fell in love with Travis. He’s been hoping for some kind of signal from Travis that he returns Rod’s feelings. When Travis announces his surprise engagement over Thanksgiving dinner Rod decides he’s done waiting for the impossible. He packs his belongings and heads for Skagit and a new life. Even if Travis suddenly decided Rod was the man for him would Rod be able to put aside his insecurities?
Travis always knew he was destined to take over the family business. As the only boy he’s expected to take the helm of the Walker farming operation, and he’s good at it. An engagement to a local girl he’s pals with seems like the perfect solution, gets him mom off his back and ensures the family line — eventually. When his best friend abruptly leaves town Travis’s eyes are finally opened to the difference between what is expected of him and what he could expect for himself.
His Best Man is a standalone in the Accidental Roots series, a friends to lovers mm romance with an HEA. Bisexual/gay.

About the Author
Author/imaginator & photographer (also rare Pacific Northwest Native), Elle grew up in Seattle, WA., with the Cascade Mountain range to the east and Olympics to the west.
Elle shares her life with between three to five cats (depending on who’s counting), an extremely patient fiancé and a flock of young adults. She’s lived in four US states, London England, and Hong Kong; always knows what time it is, and has little problem finding parking even in the most difficult places.
Elle’s series made its debut spring of 2017. Accidental Roots is set in the Skagit Valley of Western Washington. Writing has always been a passion but not something she was able to take seriously until recently. Some journeys are longer than others. Now her head is full of ideas and not enough time in each day. As far as we know she wasn’t actually raised by wolves.

Great post and I appreciate getting to find out about another great book. Thanks for all you do and for the hard work you put into this. Greatly appreciated!
Congrats not the release! It sounds good and I love the cover.
Hi Elle congratulations on your new release the book sounds fab and is on my wish list.
Sometimes it’s the most difficult writing that is the most rewarding. When characters say “No. I wouldn’t do that. I would do this,” it might derail your plans, but it almost always leads to something more true. This book sounds great and I look forward to reading it! Digging her way through her TBR pile with a steam shovel…
Congrats on the book release – I hope it pays for all the phantom back labor you had. ;-)
