Blurb: Once upon a time, a prince lived in a magical kingdom called Turquoise, New Mexico.
Well, really, TJ is a small-town police chief. Every Friday, he holds court in the diner with the local holy roller, the art colonists, and the horsey people. But the Benes, who own the rodeo company, keep to themselves. TJ knows because he was once hot and heavy with the oldest Bene son.
When Wacey Bene gets trampled by a remuda and comes home to heal, he’s none too happy to run into TJ or his two little boys and their momma. The story might end there – if it wasn’t for some pesky bastard trying to kill Wacey.
The law steps in, and the townsfolk are cross about somebody messing with one of their own.
But once the bad guy is put away, can TJ and Wacey make their place in this wild and eccentric town a permanent one?
Review: Wacey Bene has returned to his family ranch to recover from injuries sustained running his family’s rodeo business. TJ is the police chief of Turquoise, New Mexico. When they meet each other (again), they react badly and loudly. Wacey and TJ used to have a thing, but TJ could not, or would not, come out, and Wacey went into the family business, which took him out of town, and out of TJ’s life, for years.
TJ has an ex-wife, two sons, an entire town of ‘personalities’ to deal with. Wacey keeps suffering a series of near misses, and he slowly reconnects with TJ despite a mutual wariness. As the incidents surrounding Wacey become more dangerous, TJ falls for Wacey all over again. They mystery of who is hell-bent on putting an end to Wacey and the Bene family, for good, only grows deeper.
No one does Cowboy Romance like Dorian Bane. This story by BA Tortuga is a perfect fit for Bane. The cowboy cadence and mild drawl is something Bane does to perfection. Though this story is in the Dreamspun family, there is a good deal of suspense and mystery in this book. Bane presents it so well it is easy to get lost in the story. This may be a short book, but the story is complete and the narration is just about perfect.
As with all Dreamspun books there is an HEA, but getting there is all part of the fun. TJ and Wacey, the well-populated Bene family, TJ’s boys, and various townsfolk all contribute to some good, quick fun that is a very easy listen, in very capable hands, and from an author of many western romances. Bane doesn’t just give them all a voice, he brings them to life in your ears.
Buy this book because it is a good story with top-notch narration. You will enjoy the story every step of the way.
