The moment I laid eyes on the guy napping on my private beach, I wanted him. Bad. But living life in the spotlight means nothing is ever that simple. When Brody doesn’t recognize me, it seems like the perfect opportunity to let loose and have a little fun. Besides, what harm can come from a hookup with a clear expiry date?

A week’s vacation in Laguna Beach, California, is a dream come true for a guy like me. Born and bred in Sawyer’s Ferry, Alaska, I have more experience with snow than sand. But halfway through my holiday, I’m thinking I should have just stayed home until a day at the beach brings an unexpected—and intense—turn of events.
It might have started out as a disappointing trip, but it could end up being the best vacation I’ve ever had.
Review: Aaaahhhh!! *shakes fist at abrupt ending* Heh. Seriously, though…This one is like, ‘Boom. Aaaannnd, that’s all you get of these guys.’ What we did get is good, I totally dug both Brody and Beck, but all the things we didn’t get stick out also in a story this length. Granted, Laguna is a middle book—meant on some level to simply be filler, or a way to introduce characters—so, I wasn’t expecting it to be massively substantive.
Brody has lived his whole life in Sawyer’s Ferry, a quiet little town in Alaska that is a world away from Laguna Beach, where his mom flies him to as a gift for his twenty-first birthday. It’s such a world away, in fact, that he has no idea who Beckett Alexander is when he inadvertently trespasses on his beach and then immediately swoons over the gorgeous man. In turn, Beck doesn’t know what to make of the cute stranger he finds on his property, who he then offers an impromptu surf lesson and invites inside his house for an afternoon of naked fun.
To be honest, there’s not a whole lot to this story other than the sexytimes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Cate Ashwood knows how to steam things up, there’s no doubt. But she also knows how to write characters her readers are going to fall for, along with scenarios and locations that are going to be memorable. I looooooved Alaska, the first book in her Sawyer’s Ferry series, so when I saw this was set in that universe, I was excited to check it out. And, when I saw that Beck and Brody were slated to be the MCs in the fourth Sawyer’s Ferry book, I was even more stoked. I’m excited to see how Ashwood gets them up to Alaska, and what the storyline will be.
If you haven’t read Alaska, pick that one up for sure. And, then grab Laguna for a quick bit of fun before Bishop Ridge comes out this month. Or, save it for just before Brody and Beck’s book comes out. Either way, it’s a fun little snippet of naked fun in the sun!
