Blurb: There are good guys, bad guys, and then there’s Lucky.

Former drug trafficker Richmond “Lucky” Lucklighter flaunts his past like a badge of honor. He speaks his mind, doesn’t play nice, and flirts with disaster while working off his sentence with the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau. If he can keep out of trouble a while longer he’ll be a free man – after he trains his replacement.

Textbook-quoting, by-the-book Bo Schollenberger is everything Lucky isn’t. Lucky slurps coffee; Bo lives caffeine free. Lucky worships bacon; Bo eats tofu. Lucky trusts no one; Bo calls suspects by their first names. Yet when the chips are down on their shared case of breaking up a drug diversion ring, they may have more in common than they believe.

Two men. Close quarters. Friction results in heat. But Lucky scoffs at partnerships, no matter how thrilling the roller-coaster. Bo has two months to break down Lucky’s defenses…and seconds are ticking by.

Dividers

Review: Richmond Lucklighter is a drug trafficker—he is a reformed one, though. He no longer violates the law, he helps enforce it. Through a little-known government program, Lucky, as he is known, shows companies and agencies how easily a few missed protocols can end up costing millions and putting dangerous drugs on the streets.

Bo Schollenberger seems to be a golden boy, a new hire who has all the book-smarts Lucky lacks…except he has a past as well. When Lucky and Bo are forced into a joint undercover operation, sparks fly. They clash over everything from music to accommodations to the division of labor at work and home. As Lucky and Bo spend more time together, they reveal their pasts, the hurts and the disappointments life has tossed at them, and they begin to fall in love.

Darcy Stark uses all of his talents to take this thriller to the next level, and keeps the listener involved with his exceptional vocal abilities. Through all the intricacies of the plot, Stark maintains interest by giving each character their own voice. When the tension heats up and intrigue warrants it, Stark continues to engage the listener in interesting ways; the combination of his voice and Winters’ words makes for great chemistry.

The listener is rewarded at every turn in this book. As each layer of the scheme Bo and Lucky investigate is revealed and tension increases, Stark takes you for the ride right along with them. When the banter between the main characters goes from prickly to intensely loving and, at turns, explosive, we are right there with them—even when it comes to a certain article of leather clothing.

This is a great first book in a series, but it is a complete story. There is no cliffhanger here, just a fine story and excellent narration. Buy this audio and hope that the following books in the series arrive soon and have the same, very talented narrator.
