At a Glance: This is a great farewell from the voice who has carried us through the entire series. It’s a great ride from the very first word in the first book to the last word here; it has been long, sweet, and satisfying, and James’ return is just what listeners needed to feel it completed.

Blurb: Miki St. John believed happy endings only existed in fairy tales until his life took a few unexpected turns…and now he’s found his own.
His best friend, Damien, is back from the dead, and their new band, Crossroads Gin, is soaring up the charts. Miki’s got a solid, loving partner named Kane Morgan – an inspector with the SFPD whose enormous Irish family has embraced him as one of their own – and his dog, Dude, at his side.
It’s a pity someone’s trying to kill him.
Old loyalties and even older grudges emerge from Chinatown’s murky, mysterious past, and Miki struggles to deal with his dead mother’s abandonment, her secrets, and her brutal murder while he’s hunted by an enigmatic killer who may have ties to her.
The case lands in Kane’s lap, and he and Miki are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. When Miki is forced to face his personal demons and the horrors of his childhood, only one thing is certain: The rock star and his cop are determined to fight for their future and survive the evils lurking in Miki’s past.
Review: The saga of Miki St. John comes to a conclusion with this book. As with any Rhys Ford novel, you can count on two things: a tight and engaging plot, and one hell of a roller coaster ride. This book brings us both of those and more.
Miki is finally ready to face his past. All the loose threads of the previous books are coming together. Whether he survives and if he holds on to his logical family are all things that will be revealed in this final and satisfying installment of the Sinners series. He makes arrangements to meet someone who can explain his past, his early abandonment, and that tattoo that speaks to a dark past he, at turns, wants to deal with and wants to avoid. The world and Miki’s true past would sooner seem him dead and forgotten. But the family who has adopted him through his lover, Kane Morgan, as well as the best friend he calls brother, all want the best for him. His new band wants to keep Miki safe too, and they all surround and protect him to the relentless end.
Those familiar with this series will not be disappointed. Those new to this series will want to go back to book one and get on the ride Ford has laid out for us. Tristan James returns for this final installment and brings with him old friends, familiar voices, and all new characters who are just dying to be heard. This is a great farewell from the voice who has carried us through the entire series. It’s a great ride from the very first word in the first book to the last word here; it has been long, sweet, and satisfying, and James’ return is just what listeners needed to feel it completed. There is no slow spot in Sin and Tonic—it would be hard to find a slow spot in any of the books, and not one aspect of the book is underserved by James. From the full action stage performances, or the rise, fall, and resurrection of Sinner’s Gin, to the sweet loving arms of Kane Morgan’s lovemaking, to his loud, brash, and hysterical family, to tiny Dude and his unconditional love of all those who serve him, James gives us his very best.
Buy this book to complete the series. Buy it because Rhys Ford is amazing and her stories need to be read. Buy it because Tristan James is well-paired with these books. You will not be sorry you bought it, but you will be sorry to see Miki and Kane in their last book. Take the chance, enjoy the final ride.
