Blurb: Tony Gatti had his life planned: get his veterinarian license and go to work with his dad and uncle. Soon after achieving his goals, he learned the shadows and blurriness in his vision went beyond needing glasses. Retinitis Pigmentosa is a genetic mutation with no cure. With his sight almost gone, he moves into his grandmother’s St. Augustine, Florida home with his guide dog, Raven, to start life over. Nonna Concetta thinks she knows the perfect job for him. Her vet is looking for someone to destress the cats at a local rescue.
Javier didn’t plan to hire a cute former veterinarian to fill the role of cat cuddler, but Tony couldn’t be more perfect. Worried his attraction is inappropriate and knowing the holiday season always depresses him, Javier wonders if he should ask Tony out, or if he’d just be spreading the gloom to someone who already has enough of his own. But if he takes the plunge, could it turn out to be the best holiday ever?
Review: Aww…this one was so cute. Adorable cover, adorable little story. Purrfect Holiday is a part of Warmest Wishes, this year’s holiday collection from Dreamspinner Press. I have such a hard time each year deciding which stories I’m going to request from the Advent collection, but this year as soon as I saw the blurb for Purrfect Holiday I knew it was for me. 😊 I’m a major cat person, so maybe that had something to do with it—both MCs have multiple cats—or it could have simply been that it sounded like something that would make me smile.
Tony is having a bit of a hard time with his transition from Pennsylvania to sunny Florida this holiday season. Not only is the weather not right, obviously, but gradually losing his sight has Tony more than a little down. So, when his Nonna tells him that there’s an open position for a ‘cat cuddler’ at a nearby vet clinic, he can’t get his resume in order fast enough. As a former vet himself, Tony is woefully over-qualified for the position, but he desperately wants it nonetheless. So, he leaves his paperwork ambiguous and gets his foot in the door.
Javier doesn’t expect this Christmas to be different than any other… He’ll spend it alone, painfully aware that his family doesn’t want to spend the holiday with him because of his sexuality, and then get back to work at the clinic. He has no idea that the handsome guy applying for the cat cuddler position might be the person to turn everything around for him. But, he puts his initial worry about dating an employee aside and asks Tony out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet Christmas romance from Jana Denardo. Was it earth-shattering? No. But sometimes a book or short story doesn’t have to be earth-shattering to be good, or to be worth reading. There were no surprises here, no big misunderstanding, really no angst…just a cozy little holiday read, and that suited me just fine. Tony and Javier were so, so sweet together. AND the story had me searching the internet for coquito recipes! Check this one out, guys. I think you’ll like it. And let’s make some coquito this Christmas!
