Accompanying his family every year on a cheap Christmas getaway is actually a big highlight of the season for Alex. Yes, his parents trade off on complaining about most everything, but that is all part of the magic of their trip. When they escape cold Indiana to sunny Florida and vacation at a second tier amusement park that is definitely not Disney, Alex decides to wander through the gift shop exit from a ride to buy his sister a gift for Christmas. That’s when he meets the gorgeous pirate, Rory, who, before Alex can even blink, replaces all his hopes of a Prince Charming one day rescuing him to being captured by a pirate, instead.

Love at first sight, happy ever after, implausible story yet so delightfully sweet; that just about sums up this cute short story by Kim Fielding. It’s just a snippet of happiness, that’s all it’s meant to be, so don’t go looking for great depth or a dose of realism. Just sit back and enjoy a bona fide magical love story between two sweet guys. This one is sure to satisfy the romantic in all of us.
