Navy SEAL Renzo Bianchi has a soft spot for Canaan Finley, and not only because the man makes a mean smoothie. He’s the first guy to get Renzo’s motor revving in a long time. But when he agrees to Canaan’s insane charade—one all-access fake boyfriend, coming right up—he never expects more than a fling.
Creating a hot Italian SEAL boyfriend to save face seemed like a good idea…until his friends called Canaan’s bluff. Now he’s setting off into the woods with the very man who inspired his deception, and Canaan is not the outdoorsy type. The sparks are already flying when a flash flood separates them from their group, leaving Renzo and Canaan very much trapped…very much alone in the wilderness.
Working together to come up with a plan for survival is sexier than either of them expects. But back in the real world, being a couple is bringing its own set of hazards…
The Excerpt
“So…trouble?” The East Coast smooth voice he’d recognize anywhere came from the shadows, before Rooster stepped closer to him.
Holy. Freaking. Cow. An entire drum solo burst out in Canaan’s brain at the sight of his favorite SEAL. He’d actually come.
“Uhhh…” Canaan made a highly unattractive sound while trying to collect his lost thinking power.
“Oh.” Rooster shook his head. “You totally weren’t serious, were you? I kinda figured…”
“No, no. I was serious.” Canaan scrambled to recover, talking too fast now. “Just never expected you to show.”
“You sure you’re not all talk?” Rooster didn’t sound convinced by Canaan’s babble.
“I’m sure.” Canaan was better with actions than words, so he stepped away from the building, closer to Rooster, who smelled as good as he looked—some sort of spicy, lemony aftershave that made Canaan’s mouth water. He put a hand on Rooster’s massive biceps, loving how it stretched his black T-shirt, and smiled up at him. “I can be all action if that’s what you’re in the mood for.”
Rooster’s mouth twisted like he had to think about this. His eyes flared and he looked around the alley where they were standing.
“Not here,” Canaan reassured him. Even he wasn’t that much of a risk taker. “Your place? Or, wait. You live in the barracks, right?” He thought he’d heard that mentioned a few times by the other guys.
“Yup.”
“You wanna go get a drink? Maybe one of the Hillcrest bars? Or we could go to my place? I’m in North Park.” He tried not to bring hookups back home if at all possible, but since this was apparently his lucky day and chances were very high that he was dreaming this entire thing, he was more than willing to make an exception.
“Not a huge drinker. Beer is carbs, and I’m not much on the hard stuff.” Rooster looked at the ground, like Canaan might be about to snatch his man card away.
“So…my place then?”
“You just wanted a hookup?” Rooster’s mouth did that wiggly thing again. “That all you’re up for? Thought you promised trouble.”
“We don’t have to hook up,” Canaan spoke too fast again. He wasn’t going to turn down anything Rooster had in mind. A hookup would be fabulous, but honestly, before he woke up from this most excellent dream, he’d be happy to simply hang out. “What sort of trouble are you in the mood for?”
“Nothing illegal.” Rooster’s voice hardened, like there was actually a chance Canaan might be into that shit.
“Darn. No tagging downtown? No base jumping? No underground rave?” He smiled up at Rooster. And it was up. The guy was taller, which wasn’t hard seeing as Canaan had to work hard to claim five foot nine, but he had a good six or seven inches on Canaan in addition to all that extra bulk.
“Nope.” Miracle of miracles, Rooster actually smiled back, the first one since he’d emerged from the shadows. He had a chin dimple when he smiled, a spot that looked tailor made for Canaan’s tongue, but he restrained himself. Barely.
