Review: Aaaahhh! I’m so glad I finally had a chance to get to this one! I’m such a fan of Cate Ashwood’s Sawyer’s Ferry series, and ever since meeting Frankie in book one, I’ve been anxiously awaiting his story. With Copper Creek, the third book in the series, Ashwood finally delivered. And, as if getting more Frankie wasn’t enough on its own, the storyline is centered around the planning of Gage and Holden’s wedding, so we get bonus Gage and Holden cameos. Score! 😊 Don’t worry, though. Copper Creek is totally Frankie’s time to shine, and shine he does. He’s sassy, smart, sexy, and, if you ask just about anyone who knows him, a bit of a pain in the ass, but I adore the hell out of him, and it’s obvious that Ashwood loves writing him.
Frankie isn’t a big believer in marriage, or in true love for that matter, but when Holden asks him to come to Sawyer’s Ferry to help plan his wedding, Frankie sets his cynicism aside and hops on a plane to Alaska. I mean, clearly Gage and Holden need his help if they think they’re going to have any sort of decent wedding in just two months, and not end up getting married in a barn for crying out loud. Heh. So, Frankie gets to work. But while he’s scouting out venues and potential vendors in the tiny town, he discovers that Holden isn’t the only person in Sawyer’s Ferry that needs his talents. When Barrett, the owner of Copper Creek Brewing, is unable to find the contract he needs to finalize the agreement to provide beer for the wedding because his office is such a disaster, Frankie offers to help straighten things out and revamp and organize the company’s systems.
Frankie and Barrett are fantastic together. From the initial tension and Barrett’s denial of what was going on, straight through to the inevitable HEA, I loved their journey. I thought the pacing was great, and the way the relationship developed was organic and sweet. I loved how much Barrett admired and accepted Frankie for exactly who he is, and I loved Frankie’s patience and understanding of Barrett’s reactions and how he needed to process everything. And, their chemistry was undeniable. I absolutely adored these two together.
I’ve said as much before in other reviews, but I really do love Ashwood’s easygoing style. Copper Creek was entertaining, sweet, and sexy as hell. The wedding planning was the perfect backdrop and allowed for some fun setting/scenery changes. There’s just something magical about a wedding, isn’t there? It’s hard not to feel hopeful and open to love when you’re involved in a wedding. Even for a non-believer like Frankie. 😉 And, one of my favorite parts of the book was a roadtrip to Juneau on brewery business. It was such a fun, romantic chapter, and a pivotal point in the story. Such good stuff.
So, yeah, tons of love for Frankie and Barrett! I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out. Ashwood has something special going with this series, and I can’t wait to jump into the next book!
