Blurb: Prepare to dip your toe into the biggest adventure of your life, Cancer. There’s romance in the air, and it smells deliciously salty.
Dumped by the fifth girl in two years and abandoned by his best friends, Reid Glover is alone and in need of a home. Desperate, he interviews to become a live-in manny aboard widowed Sullivan Bell’s yacht, the Aquarian. The job? Not to look after thirteen-year-old Joanna. No, this child-mastermind needs Reid to befriend her dad, urge him to participate more in family life, encourage him to date, oh, and become his closest confidant and help him unleash his bottled emotions.
No pressure. At least he’s not entirely out of his depth. Okay, so he may have a slight aversion to the ocean. And possibly attract more than his fair share of misadventure.
But he is a pro at crying.
Watch out, Sullivan. Reid is on his way with a family-sized carton of tissues. He will help Sullivan through his fears. Will help him find love again. Will absolutely not fall for him in the process . . .
Caution, Cancer, how long will you fool yourself?
Review: Anyta Sunday writes some of the most clueless yet endearingly loveable characters I’ve ever read. Reid Glover, one of the MCs in Sunday’s new release, Cancer Ships Aquarius, is one of these characters. And, by clueless I don’t mean unintelligent. Reid is a very smart guy. A history buff, a sharp conversationalist, able to hold his own (for the most part) against extremely bright and mischievous thirteen-year-old girls, etc. He’s sweet, and charming, and determined. BUT, he is also unlucky in love, prone to misadventure, and oblivious when it comes to picking up what his new boss, Sullivan Bell, is laying down.
I adored Reid. He was so sweet and sincere, but also badly scarred by how much people in his life have hurt him by leaving him. His parents didn’t want him, he’s been dumped by all his recent girlfriends, his grams died, and his two best friends have taken off on a sixth month trip. Granted, his grams did love him dearly, and took him in when his parents left him, but that feeling that he wasn’t enough for his parents—if he’d just been enough, been what they wanted, they’d have stayed, right?—and the fact that he can’t keep a relationship for more than a handful of months, have absolutely shaped who he is and what he wants and needs in a partner.
I also loved Sullivan’s daughter Joanna, who Reid is hired to nanny, though at almost fourteen she doesn’t need much in the way of caretaking. What Joanna needs from Reid is for him to go along with her plan to help her dad find his way out of the sea of grief he’s drowning in, and hopefully find someone new to love. Joanna was so funny and smart; she stole just about every scene she was in.
Sullivan was a bit tougher to get to know and fall in love with. He just did not want to let us in! But, fall I did. I loved watching him fight off his attraction to Reid, and then cheered when he could no longer ignore his charms. I ended up rooting so hard for and adoring him. Also, his chemistry with Reid was Off. The. Charts. These guys were absolute fire together.
Though I did end up loving the story, and basically reading it in one sitting, I think the previous book, Pisces Hooks Taurus, remains my favorite in the series. For whatever reason, it took me a little bit more time to become fully invested in this one. But, as I said, I still loved it. Classic Anyta Sunday slow burn, age gap, fun mentions and little cameos of couples from previous books, some hilarious antics, and an epic, swoony ending. Can’t go wrong with any of that! So much fun, and another great example why Sunday is one of my go-to authors for feel-good romance.
