Hell, I knew the divorce from Sophie would break my heart, but I had no idea how lost and lonely I would feel once she was gone. Everything ended amicably, almost too peacefully, but now I’m facing a whole new chapter of my life. The only problem is, I don’t know what that chapters holds, or if anyone will ever be there to catch me if I fall again.
My only savior right now is my cousin and best friend Hux. We’ve known each other just about our whole lives, and his invitation up to the woods to help him rebuild the old cabin by Pathfinders Lake could be the one thing I need to figure out what plans the universe has in store for me… and the path I need to find.

Hell, I knew Jack’s divorce from Sophie would break his heart, but I had no idea it would bring to the surface all the yearning and pain and hopelessness I’ve felt over the years. The fact is, Jack’s the one and only person I ever want to spend the rest of my life with. But how do you tell your best friend—your cousin—how you truly feel?
I know I need to help him through the dark days following his divorce, but will I be able to keep myself from betraying all his trust by letting my true feelings show? Will inviting him up to the woods to help me rebuild the old cabin by Pathfinders Lake be the end of our relationship? Or will we finally find our very own path in this world together?
Review: Author Geoffrey Knight is no stranger to writing romance that may be considered just a bit taboo. In his latest novel, The Pathfinders, he’s written a friends-to-lovers romance with just the slightest spin. There is little doubt, as this story unfolds, that Jack and Hux are the best of friends—in many ways, soul mates—but the snag in their relationship comes down to their also being first cousins, and that’s where Knight faces the challenge of convincing his readers to buy into how they overcame obstacles, doubts, reservations and heartache to establish a bond that would not break in the face of the risks they took to be together.
Setting a backstory for his characters which was believable was the primary goal, and Knight does so by founding their friendship in terms of their family dynamics. Jack’s and Hux’s mothers may be sisters, but there is little doubt that there’s no love lost between them. The two women only communicate when necessary and even then, it’s clear that it’s grudging at best. Thus, Jack and Hux truly were raised as more friends than relatives during their childhood, and though they acknowledge the familial ties, it’s their devotion to each other in their companionship that binds them.
Bringing Jack and Hux together and then gently drawing them into an all-important turning point was accomplished, not easily but with the help of a local legend, the story of a lost love, a woman from their own uncle’s past heartbreak, and the sheer undeniable truth that the love they feel for each other went much deeper than mere affection. There were missteps and setbacks along the way—maybe fewer than was delved into here, but this is romance, after all, and Geoffrey Knight delivers on the promise the genre offers in playful, sexy, and understandably tentative ways.
If you’re looking for something just that little bit sweet, a bit poignant, and more than a little spicy, The Pathfinders covers all the bases.
