If we are made for each other, there is no one else who fits with you better than I do. – Author Unknown
The Trouble with Tony starts out with Tony DeMarco, a goofy macho Italian, ex-police officer, now a PI, meeting Jack Halloran, ex-military combat surgeon, now a sex therapist, under interesting circumstances involving an unsolved murder.
As part of Tony’s investigation, he comes to see Jack at the clinic where he works as a therapist, posing as a patient with made up sex issues. Little do we know that Tony has actual problems in the sex department. Their first meeting is pretty funny and had me laughing out loud.
Tony is a typical macho Italian with the usual large and loud family, abundance of cockiness but with a little awkwardness thrown in. His first meeting with Jack does not go as planned and he has to throw out his script and show his true self and his “picky dick” issues. Again, don’t want to spoil it because it’s pretty hilarious. Jack is your typical battle hardened doctor who suffers from PTSD. He lost his carefree youth in the military and now is trying to get his life together. With no family for support, he’s a bit of a loner. And to top if off, Jack also has sex issues. Jack sees through Tony’s deception and calls him out on it. This initial encounter sets up their personal dynamic throughout the book. This worked for me because the two characters complemented each other in so many ways and you just knew that they where made for each other.
There is a murder mystery to solve, which is predictable, but the story is mainly about Tony and Jack finding each other, coming together and creating something lasting.
The supporting cast of characters where entertaining and I would not mind reading a story about Michael, a sex surrogate who works with Jack at the clinic.
Overall, the writing was very solid. The dialog between the characters was very natural and believable. It flowed without any awkwardness. The story had lots of humor. Particularly between the two leads, but the supporting characters also had a number of memorable lines. The story had just the right amount of sex and it was hot! From the first moment the two met, you knew when they got together it would be explosive.
I give this book 4.5 stars because I wanted it to be longer! And I’m hoping for a sequel!
