Kindle Alexander's "Double Full" Scores A Big Win

I was really excited to read this book after I read the blurb. I’ve never read anything by this author, so I went in not really knowing what to expect. I was intrigued to find out more about this football player and male cheerleader.

I instantly fell in love with Colt and Jace. These two were totally at each end of the spectrum and were two of the most unlikely people to get together. One being Mr. popular at college, a total jock, he admired the other from afar; the other, not very popular, kind of a nerd and very open about his sexuality. They only had five days alone together, but I really felt the connection and love between them. I really liked the way the author gave us the beginning of their story, it gave me a truer understanding of what the characters were missing throughout the first half of the book. When they both think all is right in the world, something happens that is beyond their control. Their future is derailed and each must pick up the pieces and move on, alone.

The story picks up ten years later. Colt and Jace are very successful in their chosen careers, but they aren’t happy. They are just going through the motions of living their life. It was so sad to watch these two grown men, still in love with each other after all this time, be miserable. It was interesting to read how both were coping with the sense of loss they were most definitely feeling. Jace focused on his work and put his all into making it a success. Colt, while successful on the football field, dealt with his emotions by drinking.

Now, while I’m reading, I was wondering why don’t they just meet and talk it out. Easy solution right. They’ve both keeping up with each another’s careers, knew where the other one lived. But then it dawns on me that the first move must come from Colt. He’s the one who’s got some explaining to do, and Jace was so devastated by what had happened all those years ago, there’s no way he was going to confront Colt and risk his heart again. Colt has to get sober, get his head out of his ass and man up, it’s time.

When Colt finally makes his move to make things right between them, I was literally cheering him on. The most memorable scene in the story for me was when they finally come face to face with one another. I really liked how the author handled this delicate situation. It was written in such a way that it wasn’t over the top. There were some feelings to deal with and explanations to be heard, and when you get right down to it, that’s all that was needed. Just when we think these two are going to right all the wrongs they been dealt, and finally get the happiness they both deserved, the conflict that broke them up in the first place rears it’s ugly head once more.

I won’t go into much detail about the rest of the story, don’t want to spoil it. Just know the characters do get their HEA in the end. What they have to go through to get there is a shocker and heartbreaking, but oh so worth it.

I feel the author does a great job in getting the character’s feelings to come off the page. The reader has no choice but to feel the emotions. The story moved at such a pace and with such feeling, it was over before I knew it. It’s one of those stories I never wanted to end. Jace and Colt are definitely on my list as two of my favorite characters.

I highly recommend this story for everyone.
