Review: I have read everything Mary Calmes has ever written. Her books are always filled with great characters and her stories are timeless.
This is a short, sweet Christmas themed story: Two men trying to come to terms with how they really feel about each other, and having that happily ever after. Carver is an artist and Pete an ATF agent. They seem to be an unlikely couple, but their six month relationship is full of lust, passion and love.
To me this read like a little snippet into the lives of these two characters. Their relationship is still new. They’re still getting to know one another. One believes it’s just too good to be true. While the other, having never been in love before, is slowly coming to terms with the feeling that he’s definitely found “the one”.
We didn’t get a chance to know Carver and Pete on a deep personal level, and that was okay. The author did a great job in letting us get to know them enough that it wasn’t needed or missed. It has just the right amount information, to balance the story.
As the story unfolds it becomes clear the two men are not on the same page in their relationship. But after a trip to Carver’s family home Pete comes to realize that he wants to be wherever Carver takes him. He knows the place he is meant to be is by Carver’s side. We can only guess how their life will be, but we know they’ll always have each other. I felt this was a story about two men in the beginning of their happily ever after.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this story. Fans of Mary Calmes will not be disappointed. It’s a quick read too. So, if you have a couple of hours to spare, I would highly recommend this book.
