Blurb: Carlo Langlois joined the diplomatic corps to help people, but when his helicopter is shot down in a war torn country, he’s the one who needs assistance. None other than his old secret crush from university, Ky Kinnaird, turns up. Ky may have been an athlete and still has the rugged build to prove it, but he now works undercover for MI-6, in charge of the extraction. If Ky can keep Carlo safe, an old attraction might have the chance to blossom into more.
Review: I’m a huge fan of Andrea Speed, and I always look forward to reading her stories, whether they be short or long, and I’m never disappointed.
The one thing I love about short stories is there’s no room for unnecessary words. It’s quick and fast with just the facts. Of course, the really good ones always leave you wanting more, and yes, I want more of Carlo and Ky.
This was a rescue mission. Shot down in a war torn country, Carlo never expected his main crush from university to be the one rescuing him. I will say that I love a story where the characters meet up years later and unbeknownst to either of them, they had had a crush on one other in high school, college, etc. Being holed up for a night while waiting for reinforcements, Carlo and Ky reminisce about their college days. They decide if they ever get out of there they’re going on a proper date and get to know one another a little better.
Basically that’s the gist of the story. Now, before anyone says, “that’s it?”, yes, that’s it. This was very short, only twenty-eight pages. Is it a snippet of something bigger? I sure hope so. I would love to see how the date went.
Short, sweet read, with some intense scenes. I highly recommend it to everyone.
