Review: Even though Brian Daystar’s life has been rough, he should be happy now. His dream has been fulfilled with the completion of the LGBT center Gelda’s Getaway, in honor of his mother, but he’s dealing with a long-distance relationship with rock star, Corey, and finds himself having a change of heart. Although it bothers him to leave Montana, he needs to face Corey and put an end to a useless relationship. He tries to look on the bright side and the trip to New York as being a means to relax and unwind.

Former Assistant DA, Renford Kline, is having a hard time adjusting to retirement. Being a professor gives him the opportunity to do something new with his time—and, he’s also facing the realization he may be gay. Being a long-time friend to Brian, Renford gives him a call to congratulate him on Gelda’s Getaway, but the call leaves Renford with some disturbing feelings. When Zane Ashford, who’s a good friend to both Brian and Renford, calls in a favor, asking Renford to pick up Brian at the airport and give him a place to stay and show him around New York, Renford knows this is just not a good idea.

When Renford and Brian come to the realization that they are attracted to each other, doubts and awkwardness start to creep in. Brian worries that it’s only sexual and that his recurring emotional problems will drive Renford away. Renford still struggles with the new change, and also worries that his strong desire for Brian could chase him off. Plus, they both have separate lives, one in Montana and one in New York, and they feel a long-distance relationship can’t survive.

Wounded Pride is a really good sequel to Wounded Hearts, the first book in the Wounded series. Remmy Duchene and BL Morticia collaborate once again to bring Brian Daystar and Renford Kline’s story to life. Brian has certainly matured into a responsible and amazing man, and Renford has come to a time in his life when things have changed for him. We also get to see how Zane’s sister, Cecily, is doing, and the love of everyone’s life, Zelda, who’s excited to be a flower girl for Zane and Cyrus. There’s certainly more to come as Zane and Cyrus (who has somewhat mellowed) are getting ready to take the plunge. I really enjoyed the love, laughs and the little bit of heartache in Wounded Pride.
