We’re so pleased to be bringing you the exclusive cover reveal for Brandon Witt’s newest novella in the Mary’s Boy series, Mascara & Bandages.
Welcome, Brandon!
The Cover
Thank you so much for stopping by The Novel Approach for the cover reveal of Mascara & Bandages.
Zachary’s story is a long time coming. I’ve wanted a drag queen for a main character for ages. Some of you may know ManDonna from Under a Sky of Ash and the other Mary’s Boy’s stories. She plays a huge role in this novella, helping Zachary navigate the ups and downs of being exactly who you are, embracing the things that make Zachary wonderful and the things that make Ariel Merman powerful. During this journey, Teegan Chua joins the cast of Hamburger Mary’s through a nearly catastrophic event. Despite the angst around their first meeting, both Teegan and Zachary discover love can rise from the darkest of times and make life something beautiful and worth celebrating.
Though this is part three (of four) of the Mary’s Boys series, this can be read as a stand-alone and you won’t be missing a thing if you didn’t read book one, Nachos & Hash, or book two, Vodka & Handcuffs. Each builds off the other, somewhat, but they are all designed to be read on their own.
The Novel Approach has agreed to do the cover reveal for all four of the novellas (all will be out by October 2017) for a very special reason. When we were trying to raise enough money for Eric Arvin when he needed some medical help, I had an offer that for the people who gave $1000, they could be a character in my books. However, when it looked like the goal wasn’t going to be met, The Novel Approach stepped up and bought one of my character spots, then raffled it off on the blog to further help Eric.
Though Eric has since passed, Dreamspinner has each of his novels and stories available. You won’t be disappointed with any of them. Eric does passion, horror, fantasy, romance, you name it. However, one of the things he does best is humor. I love his Subsurdity series. It’s like gay Melrose Place on acid (yes, I’m dating myself here, I’m aware). It’s flawless.
For this giveaway, you can have any of my backlist titles (anthologies excluded), and a copy of Subsurdity. If you already own this treasure, you can simply pick any title from his backlist of perfect novels.
I so can’t wait for you to have your heartstrings tugged by Zachary and Teegan! You’ll adore them! Thanks again for stopping by!
Much love, b
About the Book
Coming July 12, 2017 from Dreamspinner Press
Ariel Merman is a new drag queen who’s already finding a family at Hamburger Mary’s. After a performance as Ariel, Zachary Cooper walks home in his makeup and is assaulted by homophobes. Zachary’s worry that the attack has thrown a wrench in his good fortune is eased when he looks into the eyes of his doctor.
Dr. Teegan Chau is a little lost after divorcing his wife and coming out of the closet, but he can’t deny the pull he feels toward the young man he patches up. Luckily, Zachary takes the initiative and asks Teegan out. But attraction is the easy part of their blossoming relationship—as they deal with an ex-wife and child, being a drag queen in a heteronormative culture, Zachary’s lingering trauma from his attack, and Teegan acclimating to life as part of an out-and-proud gay couple.
The challenges seem daunting at the start of a romance. Can Zachary and Teegan make it through the rough patches and take a chance on the love that’s been missing from both their lives?

About the Author

Brandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about….

About Eric Arvin’s Subsurdity
Jasper Lane is a well-off neighborhood, not much different in appearance than most, with a tree-lined drive, manicured lawns, and crystal clear ponds. But underneath the pleasantry, a completely different world lurks.
Cassie Bloom, the grand dame of Jasper Lane, has a missing son and husband and throws gay porn parties that are the social events of the year. Her best friend, a transsexual named Vera, owns a nightclub. Melinda Gold is the resident religious fanatic whose views clash with that of her son Patrick. Sandy and Steve Jones are the stereotypical all-American couple (except Steve acts in gay-for-pay porn unbeknownst to his pregnant wife).
Rick Cooper just moved in, and despite his qualms about another relationship (having literally lost an eye in the previous one), he falls for ex-soldier, James. And David and Cliff are the most “normal” couple on the block… never mind that David helped Cassie with some past nefarious deed and that Cliff is the biggest gay porn star in the biz. Throw a dog named Gayhound and a dead body into the mix, and Jasper Lane may just be the gayest neighborhood in town!
