Guest Post and Giveaway: Making It by Christine d’Abo

Please join us in welcoming author Christine d’Abo to TNA today on the virtual tour for her newest release, Making It, book three in the Ringside Romance ~verse. She’s talking about a serious and important subject as well as offering a great giveaway, so be sure to check out the entry details below.

Welcome, Christine!

Blood Donation

Hello my name is Christine d’Abo and I’m a romance author of both het and LGBTQ stories. Thank you so much for having me here today, and giving me an opportunity to talk about my upcoming M/M romance novel, MAKING IT.

Devan Walsh, one of my heroes in MAKING IT, works for Canada Blood Services in Toronto. Yes, he’s one of the people who hooks you up when you go in to make a blood donation.

Wait, you don’t donate blood? That’s cool, it’s certainly not for everyone. For a long time, I didn’t either. But a few years ago, my friend’s mom and one of my editors developed cancer around the same time. I felt completely helpless and wanted to try and do something more than simply offer my verbal support. So, I signed up to donate blood. I now go as frequently as I’m allowed.

While I know many of my readers are in the United States, I thought I’d share some of the facts on blood donation from the Canadian Blood Services website.

  • Every person’s body contains about five litres of blood (or 10.5 pints)
  • There are approximately 450 ml of blood in one unit collected
  • About 100,000 new donors are needed every year to meet demand
  • Canadians are some of the most loyal donors in the world, donating more than two times per year on average
  • It can take up to 50 units of blood to save a single car crash victim
  • It can take eight units a week to help someone battling leukemia
  • All it takes is one donation to Give Life

If you’re interested in learning more about blood donation, you can visit the American Blood Centers, or Canadian Blood Services site. And if donation isn’t your jam, there are lots of other ways you can help.

Devan and Eli thank you!

About the Book

Devan knows exactly what he wants from life: a good career, a husband who loves him, and a child to call his own. He’s working at the perfect job, and has found the man of his dreams in Eli. That only leaves one box left to tick. When his friend offers to be a surrogate mother for Devan and Eli, he’s convinced all his dreams have come true.

Eli has been fighting his entire life. Fighting to keep his sick mother safe, fighting his frustration, and fighting daily as an up-and-coming MMA star. The one thing he can’t fight is the feeling that he’s made a terrible mistake agreeing to be a father with Devan. On the worst night of their lives, Eli knows Devan is better off without him, and leaves.

When Eli returns three years later, he comes face-to-face with Devan and a son who might be his. Devan has moved on with his life, but seeing Eli once again reignites forgotten passion. Yet if Eli wants to make it work with Devan, he must decide if he’s ready for the biggest fight of his life.

  2. I used to give blood loyally every time I could for many years. Then the American Cross decided that Gay men could not give blood anymore. I decided then that I wouldn’t support them. It’s sad that many of us used to be very loyal in giving. Now with the orange cheeto in office, I can just see it getting worse…sad.
Congratulations on your new release!!!! I’m really looking forward to reading this wonderful story.

  3. I’ve never donated because I can’t do needles. My sisters use to do it in high school and I had wanted to too but my fear of needles and worry over possibly being anemic kind of ended that. Thank you for sharing those interesting facts.
