Thank you for having me over today to talk about my new novel Bone to Pick by TA Moore, which will be available from Dreamspinner Press on August 14.

This blog tour is a bit of a departure for me. Usually I do a short story split between the blogs. However, that didn’t really work with Bone to Pick (the characters had met, briefly, before the start of this story but it didn’t go well. Someone might have got punched; someone might have deserved it!). So instead I thought I would give you a spoiler-free introduction to the cast of characters you’ll be meeting in Bone to Pick and tell you a little bit about how I came up with them—and maybe a bit about what I have planned for the future. I hope you enjoy meeting them! I love them all, even the terrible ones.

Introducing Sean Stokes

Sean Stokes is the sort of man that plays video games on Easy mode. He was a good detective, but it was easier to turn a blind eye than confront the corruption that was endemic in his department. As a romantic partner he barely put the effort in, but he was pretty so he got away with a lot.

When we meet Sean in Bone to Pick (only briefly, but I have plans for him!) he’s a private investigator, but I have a lot of plans for his future. I also have a backstory for him that I hope to revisit in future books.

In a lot of ways, even though we only meet him briefly in Bone to Pick, Sean is an essential character to me. Both Cloister and Javi are blow-ins to Plenty, they know the present of the town but they didn’t live through its past.

Sean did. He was right in the middle of it all, and narratively that functions as a connection to the history of the town. It’s useful to me as a writer, and I think it’s essential to give the narrative that…depth…that I hope it has.

He’s also a hot, shady man and I have a weakness for them.

Going forward, Sean is definitely going to appear again as one of the foundation characters of the setting. Maybe, if he’s good, he’ll even get his own story one day. That’s getting a bit ahead of myself though.

….I will probably eventually reveal why his husband ditched him though!

Five Facts about Sean Stokes

1: His ex was always too good for him. You could ask anyone.

2: The assumption of corruption got him fired from the police force, but it’s actually worked in his favour now he’s working for himself.

3: His mother lives in Florida with her new husband. She’s been through four of them since Sean’s Dad passed on. His mum has a knack for finding a man on his last legs, like one of those death-sniffing cats. Never any foul play, though. Thank god.

4: Sean has a battered up old Triumph motorbike that he is restoring. He calls it the money pit. His ex called it the other man.

5: If Sean had to pick between Javi and Cloister, he’d pick Javi but he’d never admit that out loud.

About the Author

TA Moore genuinely believed that she was a Cabbage Patch Kid when she was a small child. This was the start of a lifelong attachment to the weird and fantastic. These days she lives in a market town on the Northern Irish coast and her friends have a rule that she can only send them three weird and disturbing links a month (although she still holds that a DIY penis bifurcation guide is interesting, not disturbing). She believes that adding ‘in space!’ to anything makes it at least 40% cooler, will try to pet pretty much any animal she meets (this includes snakes, excludes bugs), and once lied to her friend that she had climbed all the way up to Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, when actually she’d only gotten to the beach, realized it was really high, and chickened out.

She aspires to being a cynical misanthrope, but is unfortunately held back by a sunny disposition and an inability to be mean to strangers. If TA Moore is mean to you, that means you’re friends now.
