Cover Reveal and Giveaway: Sin and Tonic by Rhys Ford

Welcome to the Exclusive Cover Reveal of Rhys Ford’s Sin and Tonic, the sixth and final book in the Sinners series!

We’re so pleased to have the opportunity to share the cover with you as well as the fantastic giveaway which you can check out the details for and enter below.

On Christmas Eve in 2012, Dreamspinner Press published a book of mine called Sinner’s Gin.

I wrote Sinner’s Gin off and on for years before. The original story looks nothing like the end product. There were changes as the characters grew organically in my head and the situations shifted, circumstances and locales moving about until I felt like I hit the right combination of personalities and storyline.

What never changed was the opening.

You see, I’d written that first. I knew at the very beginning of Miki St. John’s creation that I was going to rip away everything he held dear and replace it with an emptiness so vast it would echo his heartbeats back to him.

Because I had every intention of building him a new world.

I’ve been asked if I believe Miki is my most broken character. Honestly, no. I actually don’t see him as broken. I don’t see any of them as broken. And that could just be my perspective is probably a bit… darker than most, but Miki is a very familiar, comfortable ground for me to write on. He’s prickly and suspicious but yearns for things, for emotions, for love even.

I needed to pair him with someone who wasn’t just strong but someone who was resilient and willing to take the barbs and bites he’d get along the way. Kane Morgan became that balance, that stubborn piece of granite Miki couldn’t budge.

But at the same time, Kane had to grow as well.

Because he had to see Miki didn’t need fixing. Didn’t need to be sheltered. Didn’t need to be coddled. Miki wasn’t looking for someone to save him. He had that in Damien, a brother who’d pulled him out of the darkness and into the light—even if it was just for a brief moment.

What Miki needed was someone to love him as he was. And as what he could be.

Kane could do that. Kane did do that. And along the way, he not only fell in love with Miki but also taught him how to love in return—including being accepted into a sprawling, bossy, intrusive Irish family full of cops, laughter and tolerance.

And now here we are…at the end of the series and I’ve brought Miki back full circle to where he was before I first imagined his life. Their path hasn’t been an easy one. I’ve put Miki and Kane through a lot of emotional upheaval, but I knew they’d never waver. The point of this journey wasn’t to tear them apart and stitch them back together. It was to show two men with very different experiences and perspectives learn what each other needed as their love deepened.

There was never any question Miki St. John would get his happily-ever-after.

It was just a matter of when and how.

And that leads us to Sin and Tonic.

On May 15, 2018, I am happy to bring the conclusion of Miki’s story, the final few steps of his road towards happiness and the loves he’s found along the way. It is a return to the fire escape in Chinatown, the warehouse he shares with Kane and also to the affection he has for the dog who’d moved into his home and never left.

Thank you all for being with me on this journey. Your support and enthusiasm means so much to me and I hope you enjoy the final book in Miki’s story.

May you always have…
Walls for the winds
A roof for the rain
Whiskey beside the fire
Laughter to cheer you
Those you love near you
And all your heart might desire.

Sin and Tonic by Rhys Ford

Published by Dreamspinner Press • Release Date: May 15, 2018

Miki St. John believed happy endings only existed in fairy tales until his life took a few unexpected turns… and now he’s found his own.

His best friend, Damien, is back from the dead, and their new band, Crossroads Gin, is soaring up the charts. Miki’s got a solid, loving partner named Kane Morgan—an Inspector with SFPD whose enormous Irish family has embraced him as one of their own—and his dog, Dude, at his side.

It’s a pity someone’s trying to kill him.

Old loyalties and even older grudges emerge from Chinatown’s murky, mysterious past, and  Miki struggles to deal with his dead mother’s abandonment, her secrets, and her brutal murder while he’s hunted by an enigmatic killer who may have ties to her.

The case lands in Kane’s lap, and he and Miki are caught in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. When Miki is forced to face his personal demons and the horrors of his childhood, only one thing is certain: the rock star and his cop are determined to fight for their future and survive the evils lurking in Miki’s past.

  6. Rhys that cover is FANTASTIC!! You’ve captured both Micki’s strength (backbone of solid steel) and his soft heart. Now I just have to figure out how to be patient for the actual book.

  7. It’s going to feel like a hundred years until May! Sinner’s Gin was the first book of yours I ever read (murder, classic cars and it being either free or discounted when I found it caught my eye). I went from taking a chance on a random book, to being VERY careful to make sure I knew where all my Rhys Ford books were packed when we moved. ( which was a clearly labeled box in my van, NOT with the movers! ). I am sad to see the series end, but just as excited to find out what happens. And I like the cover, too. Bonus!

  9. Thank you for introducing such brilliantly flawed and so very human characters. Bittersweet is the right word for the series ending. The cover is brilliant but I expected nothing less. I have devoured everything you’ve written, slipping into their worlds so easily. Always regretting having to leave but so much the better for it. Looking forward to whatever spills out of your pen next!

  23. Gosh, it’s been probably 5 or six years, but I think Sinner’s Gin was the first book of you’re I’d ever read. From there I devoured your whole catalog, which honestly wasn’t very big at the time. I’m kind of heartbroken that this one is over. This is the end. But I felt like that with Cole and Jae, too. I still feel like that, so, I guess…good job.

  26. Oh, the love for Miki. He isn’t broken. He’s irascible, he’s cynical, and he will forever be in my heart. It sounds like we may be getting his back story (and maybe the history of the tattoo?), and he finally gets to settle in to his new reality, full of love and finally embracing the happiness that is his for the taking. The cover is glorious, hinting at the mysteries hidden within, shadows and smoke. Miki will be remembered forever with love, even as we mourn his final farewell. Thank you for gifting us with yet another amazing series!

  28. I sound like a broken record, but Sinner’s Gin was the first book of yours I read/listened to. After that, I bought everything I could get my grabby hands on. But the Sinners gang, like all first loves, will be my favorite series. The cover art is breathtaking, and I love the 415 Ink t-shirt Miki is wearing (is this in your store?). I binge read the sinners series recently, so I’m caught up, but I might read Absinthe of Malice again before Sin and Tonic’s release. I especially appreciate how crappy Miki’s life has been, and even when he’s mired in grief, you don’t present him as broken. Yes, he’s gotten the stuffing kicked out of him, but he’s getting up every single day, fighting off Damien’s greedy parents, because if he didn’t do it, who would. It’s his strong commitment to the Damien and his fellow bandmates that kept him going. Even though this will be the end of the series arc, I’ll always be able to reread the Sinners saga, and can imagine Kane and Miki, and the Morgan/Finnegan living out their lives. Thank you Rhys for this amazing, gut wrenching, nail biting ride.

  31. Thank you for updating this series. I can’t wait to read it, and listen to it once it’s on Audible. I love these so much that I buy the ebooks, paperbacks, and the Audible books so I can experience them in any setting (even reading the book while listening to the Audible). I’m sad that there won’t be any more new stories in the series, but do know that I can always re-read or listen to them.

  34. I can’t wait for it’s release because I will FINALLY be able to read all 6 ebooks (plus the 2 in between ebooks) altogether, I’ve been waiting patiently since Sloe Ride was released. I’ve been slowly buying them from Dreamspinner because I got sucked into Rhys’ books from the Hellsinger books first then Cole McGinnis books, though I learnt from Cole’s books to wait for the final one before reading them series because it was a killer to wait after i had binged read up to Down and Dirty and had to wait for the final book Dirt Heart, I said never again will I read the series knowing there’s a final book to be written, so I waited for Sin and Tonic patiently :D
