Blurb: Rebecca Mason is forty, slim and very attractive. She’s also single, and confused about love.
She’s never been in a relationship, and always found herself looking at women more than men. Rebecca releases her sexual energy in the privacy of her bedroom, using her faithful toys. She especially likes secretly watching women in different states of undress, and a quick glimpse of a pair of panties, or bare inner-thigh turns her on.
At break time in work one day, Rebecca finds herself staring at Gayle, a work colleague she has fancied for a while. Her slim legs and pert chest make Rebecca all hot and bothered.
Gayle is very pretty, and a lot younger than Rebecca. She also is flirting with Rebecca too, and this is a problem, because Gayle is married. But the power of desire is difficult to tame…
Review: I should be transparent in my perspective: I’m a lesbian and traditionally look for f/f that is clumped into the lesbian genre. This short story is confused, as a few places online have it categorized as LGBT, but it’s certainly not that type of story. It is f/f sex which, to be honest, is very poorly written.
The blurb for the book gives the impression that it has a plot, characters with a personality, but it doesn’t. It’s a few short narratives about masturbation and f/f sex. It should be noted it is very apparent this is written from and for the male gaze and is absolutely cringe-worthy in its fantasy-esque desires about lesbians in changing rooms.
I wish I could say this is written well, but it’s not. There is a repetition of poorly used adjectives for the female body. Perhaps more annoying, there is a lot of juxtaposition of male adjectives for women as it pertains to sex organs and masturbation techniques that just don’t make sense, especially when told from a first-person, female perspective. Also, it’s always a concern to read about female masturbation and have the character do things that are physically impossible unless she is a contortionist. But even then, I’m not sure it’s plausible.
Simply Sex is about sex and has some sex in it, but I’d argue there are other options elsewhere that are much better.
