Welcome to author Joe Cosentino, who’s joining us today with a character interview he put together for the tour of his books Holiday Tales from Fairyland and its companion Tales from Fairyland. Joe is also offering one lucky reader the chance to win an audiobook narrated by Joel Leslie, so be sure to check out all those details below!
And now, here’s Joe and Prince Anton.
An Interview with Prince Anton
Joe: Since the readers can’t see you, what do you look like Vasily?
Prince Anton: I have long black hair, cherry cheeks, a muscular frame, and emerald eyes. Though I’m bewitched by Baba Yaga, I recognize Vasily’s kind heart, goodness, and love for me coming through like the sun through the barren tree branches.
Joe: Where do you live?
Prince Anton: In Baba Yaga’s house in Fairyland, where I’m trapped under her spell.
Joe: How does it feel to be out (no pun intended) of the new novella, Holiday Tales from Fairyland, by Joe Cosentino?
Prince Anton: It’s great to get away from that witch.
Joe: Were you in my novellas The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland published by Dreamspinner Press? And how did the new stories come about?
Prince Anton: No, mine is the Vasillisa, the Beautiful story. That first novella was Joe’s comic gay take on Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Pinocchio, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, and The Snow Queen. I, and the readers who loved The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland, kept whispering in your ear, and Holiday Tales from Fairyland was born. Also, you told me you missed Fairyland and couldn’t wait to come back. I don’t blame you. My home is a wonderful place. LGBT people aren’t represented in traditional fairytales. You changed all that in your tales from Fairyland.
Joe: Your story takes place on Winter Solstice. What is it that you love about that holiday?
Prince Anton: The air is cold, and the trees are bare. Baby Yaga has me riding past the orphanage in white on a white horse to announce the morning, in red on a red horse to proclaim the afternoon, and in black on a black horse to signal the night. That’s how I meet Vasily.
Joe: Tell us about your story in Holiday Tales from Fairyland?
Prince Anton: Vasily is being tormented by the priest who runs the orphanage. He gazes out the window each day at a mysterious man, me, who rides by the orphanage each morning, noon, and night. Upon following me, he discovers I’m a prince under the powers of Baba Yaga. Can he rescue me from the witch’s conversion therapy and dance around my pole on May Day? Story three spills the winter beans.
Joe: Tell us about Vasily Volkov.
Prince Anton: He’s my winter solstice, savior, and love of my royal life. Vasily is twenty, tall, lean, and strong with auburn hair, olive-colored skin, and sapphire eyes.
Joe: Who are the other characters in your story besides Vasily, Baba Yaga the witch, the priest who manages your orphanage, and you?
Prince Anton: Baba Yaga’s two henchmen. You’ll have to read the story to find out who partners with whom in the end? You’ll definitely be surprised!
Joe: What are the other stories in the novella?
Prince Anton: The first story takes place on Halloween. Ichabod Crane, a young schoolteacher, has a boner over sexy and muscular farmer Brom Bones. When the residents of the homophobic Sleepy Hollow aren’t happy about it, the headless horseman rides into town. Will Ichabod fall off his horse into Brom’s strong, rescuing arms, teaching the town folk a lesson in acceptance they’ll never forget? You’ll see! In story two on Christmas, hunky Cavalier P.I. receives a visit from a new client, handsome young Fritz. Somebody strangled Fritz’s sister Clara with the ribbons of her toe shoes, and Fritz is the top suspect. But he seems more interested in the bulge in Cavalier’s tights than in getting himself off the hook. When Cavalier turns sweet on Fritz, it’s time for the private investigator to question his old dance partner the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara’s husband the Nutcracker, Fritz’s other sister Louise, and Fritz’s Godpapa Drosselmeyer to save his intended, and find out: Who Killed Clara?
Joe: Fairyland is a very gay place.
Prince Anton: The gayest. It’s Fairyland after all!
Joe: Tell us about the heroes in the other two stories.
Prince Anton: Ichabod Crane is a young schoolteacher whose heart has been stolen by the town hunk, Brom Bones. Ichabod not only needs to win over the man he loves, but also win over the hearts and minds of the bigoted residents of Sleepy Hollow. Cavalier is a terrific private investigator who is seeking the perfect dance partner in Fritz, his gorgeous, young, and mysterious client.
Joe: Any chance you’ll be pairing in the future with Cavalier or Ichabod?
Prince Anton: No. I’m a one-man man. And that man is Vasily of Yagaville, Fairyland.
Joe: Are you excited about the paperback of the entire Tales from Fairyland Collection?
Prince Anton: So excited! What I hope is that everyone reads and these funny, sexy, heartwarming, romantic, fairytales. They will no doubt bring you back to better, joyous times. I also hope the movie studio producing those amazing animated fairytales finally realizes that fairytales should include everyone—including the bewitched prince who finds true love!

I love fairy tales because they remind me of my childhood. I leanrt many a things thanks to fairy tales!
Fairy tales are fun, I feel like there’s always a life lesson in it and ends happy.
Because of fairy tales we can believe in the impossible. Queens don’t always win…and neither do wicked witches. Serfs and peasants have a chance at a happy ending. Magic lives. And sometimes straw is spun into gold. Best of all, there is some form of love in every story.
Since I don’t belong to Facebook or tweet, I’m following you on Goodreads and Bookbub instead!
