As a demon, Belial has existed for millennia. Having missed his first chance at bonding with his amina a thousand years before, and with his second thousand years of service coming to a close, he’s keen to seek out that special someone. He needs to bond with that one key person, binding him to the mortal plane and freeing him from the Horseman of War’s service. Before seeking that special person out, Belial heads up one last mission to incite a skirmish between a vampire coven and a group of humans. To his surprise, he scents his amina at the vampire coven about to be attacked. Belial comes face to face with the blood-crazed vampire Gabriel…who Belial learns was tortured and experimented on by the very humans set to attack the coven. For the first time in his life, Belial joins a side. While he might save the coven, can he figure out a way to save his own amina…giving them both a chance at a future?
Review: Belial is a demon in the service of the Horseman of War. His job is literally to stir up trouble and start conflicts, but when he’s tasked with starting a war between some hunters and a coven of vampires, he discovers his anima, the demon equivalent of a mate or beloved. He missed his last chance, and now his window is narrowing to bond—or face another millennium in the service of his master.
The problem is that his anima is a vampire who has been tortured and is not in his right mind. It seems we have actually met this vampire, Gabriel, in a previous episode, so we know that he has been tortured and driven so out of his mind that he has killed humans in his bloodlust. He’s still so out of control that he’s been essentially jailed in the Coven’s home because he can’t be trusted. Belial knows he needs to get Gabriel to trust him and help him to heal. f he can’t accomplish that, well, then his hopes of bonding and getting his reward for all his years of service will be dashed.
Of course, Belial is also bent on making those who have tortured Gabriel pay. Turns out that plays right into his plans of starting the war between the so-called priests and the vampires. If Belial can exact his revenge, heal his mate, help the coven and bond with Gabriel, then he can call it a day. This is a tall order and will require some additional help, but luckily, Belial and Gabriel both have good friends in their corner.
Well, this was bit fascinating. In this story, we got to visit the plane of the Horsemen and the demons, and it’s really interesting. Belial is another one of the demons that is just doing his job when he gets caught up with the paranormals. I really liked him and the Horseman. I hope we get more in this realm because I thought it really added to this series and this story. And, I was really happy to see Gabriel get a second chance after all of his suffering. This was one of my favorites in this series, for sure.
